The following history information was taken from the Inventory of Church Archives of Churches 1935. By: E.E. Vaughn Holly Creek Baptist 4 mi. SW of Starr Organized 1885 1st in log structure about 200 yards W. of present site 1885 - 1895. Built 1895 and dedicated in 1901, wooden frame oblong shaped 30 X 42, plain square windows and doors, no bell or belfry. Capacity 200. Value of building $1675, value of lot $125, total value of church property $1800.00. First settled clergy James Harris, tenure 1885 - 1886. Charter members unknown, present membership 106. This church is the heart of the McGee Plantation. The land was given by Mr. Willis McGee for the benefit of his tenants (he was white). It got it's name from the nearby Holly Creek.
